Barnbrook Fonts created Chivas Priori for Chivas, one of the world’s best selling whiskies. The redefined global brand identity, developed by London design practice SomeOne, balances a contemporary attitude with a history and tradition that can be traced back over 200 years. Anchoring the brand identity and providing a uniquely British voice is Chivas Priori, a contemporary typeface executed with craft and tradition.
Chivas Priori is an adaptation of Priori Sans, a typeface that draws upon the rich tradition of early 20th century British typography, including the work of notable typographers Edward Johnston and Eric Gill. Priori blends these historical influences with a range of idiosyncratic twists and modern design references. In adapting Priori to Chivas Priori, a number of characters were customised, bringing to the fore a refined elegance and some references to British typographic tradition. Seven styles were created, three weights with corresponding italics (light, regular and bold) and a black for poster-weight headlines.
